How to build a beginner skincare routine
Looking for the perfect beginner skincare routine?
Here's how to get started!
First, consider your specific skin concerns and skin type.
If you have normal skin with no major issues, a basic 3-step routine of cleansing, moisturising, and using sunscreen may be all you need.
If you have more specific concerns, you can add in additional steps like toning and using a serum.
No matter what your routine looks like, be sure to follow the general rule of applying products in this order: cleanse, tone, treat (with a serum), moisturise, and protect (with SPF).
Remember, sunscreen should always be the final step in your routine (P.S Ours is coming soon!), and the only thing you should apply over it is powder, concealer, or foundation.
With the right skincare routine, you'll be on your way to healthy, radiant skin in no time!
Here's a guide on how to build your routine 😛
1.) Cleansing:
At AntiBeauty, we believe that cleansing is the foundation of any great skincare routine, this is a great place to start and slowly build consistency before adding other products to your skincare routine. By getting rid of excess oil, dirt, and makeup, you allow your skin to breathe and absorb the rest of your skincare products more effectively.
That's why we offer three amazing cleansers to suit different skin types:
• Our Reveal Purifying Cleanser is perfect for oily, blemished, acne-prone skin
• Our Saturate Hydrating Cleanser is great for dry or normal skin
• Our Fragile Calming Cleanser is perfect for sensitive, ageing or hormonal skin.
Whether you have normal, oily, dry, or sensitive skin, it's important to incorporate a daily cleanser into your beginner skincare routine, both morning and night, for the best results.
2.) Exfoliating:
Welcome to the world of exfoliation!
Exfoliating is an important step in any skincare routine because it helps to remove dead skin cells and reveal the glowing, healthy skin underneath.
This process is important because it helps to prevent dull, dry, and patchy skin, and it can even improve the overall appearance of your skin.
At AntiBeauty, we believe in using exfoliators that are gentle and nourishing, so that you can achieve radiant, healthy skin without irritation.
Our Detox Fine Exfoliating Crystals are perfect for any skin, and they work to hydrate, smooth, and retain moisture in the skin. Use them a few times a week to see the best results.
Or use our Konjac Sponges for a product free or ultra deep clease, these are a must have for anyone who is a beginner skincare user!

3.) Toning:
Toning is an important step in any skincare routine!
If you wear makeup, have oily skin, or are prone to acne, incorporating a toner into your routine is especially important.
Incorporating toners into your beginner skincare routine is a must!
These products work to remove any remaining impurities after cleansing, helping to maintain clean and clear skin. They also improve skin tone and restore pH levels, making them a valuable addition to any skincare routine.
Use toners twice every day and feel free to use them over your makeup too as they are all alcohol free and non drying!
4.) Treatments and Serums
Serums are a must-have in your beginner skincare routine, as they are specifically designed to target specific concerns. They deliver a higher concentration of active ingredients to the skin, making them perfect for treating a wide range of issues, from acne and premature aging to hyperpigmentation and dryness.
It's important to apply serums before moisturisers, as they help to deeply penetrate the skin, providing maximum benefits. They are lightweight, easy to apply, and can be used in the morning, at night, or both. Depending on the concentration of the formula, serums can also be referred to as ampoules or boosters.
Here are some different examples of the actives found in serums:
Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is a moisture-binding ingredient (in fact it holds up to 1000x its weight in water) that is known for its ability to alleviate dryness and prevent premature ageing.
It helps to hydrate the skin by attracting and retaining moisture, leaving it looking plump and hydrated. This ingredient is also able to penetrate deeply into the skin, making it an effective ingredient for addressing fine lines and wrinkles.
Additionally, Hyaluronic acid acts as a barrier that protects the skin from environmental damage, helping to prevent premature ageing. This makes it a great ingredient for those looking to improve the overall hydration and youthful appearance of their skin.
You can find Vitamin C in the AntiBeauty Potent Hyaluronic Acid Serum.
Retinol
Retinol is a powerful active ingredient that targets acne and premature ageing. It helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while also fighting against acne-causing bacteria.
This ingredient is often used in anti-ageing and anti-acne skincare products, and it's praised for its ability to improve the texture and tone of the skin. Additionally, it helps to unclog pores and boost collagen production, leaving the skin looking youthful and radiant.
You can find Retinol in the AntiBeauty Potent Retinol Serum.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a vital ingredient in skincare, known for its ability to enhance the overall appearance of the skin.
It helps to brighten the complexion and improve skin tone, leaving it looking even and radiant. This is helpful for those who don't like the appearance of pigmentation, hyperpigmentation, freckles, or age spots. Additionally, it is a powerful antioxidant that helps to protect the skin from environmental damage, thereby preventing premature aging.
Furthermore, Vitamin C helps to boost collagen production, which is essential for maintaining skin elasticity, firmness and hydration. This makes it a great ingredient for those looking to improve the overall health and appearance of their skin.
You can find Vitamin C in the AntiBeauty Potent Vitamin C Serum.
Niacinamide
Niacinamide is a versatile skincare ingredient that helps to control sebum production and reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation. It works by regulating the production of oil in the skin, helping to reduce excess shine and prevent acne.
This ingredient also has a brightening effect on the skin, helping to reduce the appearance of age spots, dark spots, and other types of hyperpigmentation. This ingredient is suitable for all skin types, and it can help to improve skin texture and tone, leaving the skin looking clearer, brighter, and more youthful.
You can find Niacinamide in the AntiBeauty Potent Oil Control Serum.
When incorporating active ingredients into your skincare routine, it's important to consider the best time to use them.
• Vitamin C is best used in the morning as it provides antioxidant protection throughout the day.
• Retinol is best used at night as it can increase sun sensitivity and may cause irritation if used during the day.
• Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid, on the other hand, are more flexible and can be used both in the morning and at night.
It's also important to consider the order of application for your skincare products. Water-based serums should be applied before oil-based serums. And when using active ingredients, it's best to apply low pH actives such as Vitamin C before high pH actives like Retinol and Hyaluronic acid. This allows the active ingredients to penetrate the skin effectively and provide maximum benefits.
5.) Moisturise
Moisturising is an essential step in any beginner skincare routine as it helps to retain the skin's natural glow and keep it looking youthful.
The best time to apply moisturiser is when the skin is still damp, as this helps to ensure that all of the product is absorbed into the skin. It's recommended to moisturise both in the morning and at night to reduce the likelihood of dryness.
When choosing a moisturiser, it's important to look for products that are non-comedogenic, meaning they won't clog your pores. This is especially important for those with oily or acne-prone skin. (P.S ALL AntiBeauty products are non-comedogenic)
At AntiBeauty we offer moisturisers for Normal/Dry Skin, Oily/Acne Prone Skin, Sensitive/Hormonal Skin, and also Ageing/Mature Skin.
6.) Protect
Incorporating sunscreen into your skincare routine is crucial in protecting your skin from hyperpigmentation, and premature ageing, and reducing the risk of skin cancer.
It's important to choose a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and to apply it daily, especially when you are going to be outdoors for an extended period. In Australia, it's essential to use sunscreen daily to protect the skin from the sun's harmful rays.
It's also important to choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against both UVA rays, which cause wrinkles and age spots, and UVB rays, which cause hyperpigmentation. This will ensure that your skin is protected from all types of harmful rays.
(P.S. AntiBeauty is currently developing our first sunscreen and we cannot wait for you to try it!)
